Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
Seizure evaluation for patients of all ages
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by seizures resulting from abnormal electrical activity in the brain. The disease affects more than 2 million Americans. For most of those people, seizures may be successfully controlled through medication, surgery or other treatments.
The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Ellis provides care for patients of all ages who require seizure evaluation to diagnose and treat their condition. The detailed monitoring allows our neurosciences team to identify the type of seizure, pinpoint the location of origin, and develop customized treatment plans for each patient.
State-of-the-art technology plays a crucial role in this unit. Through EEG, video and sound recordings, data is obtained that enables our neurology experts to accurately diagnose epilepsy, epilepsy syndromes, non-epileptic seizures and behavior disorders.
When outpatient monitoring is an option, ambulatory EEG monitoring is available - convenient for pediatric and adolescent patients, as well as those who prefer to be at home during testing.
