CT (Computed Tomography)
CT technology delivers high resolution images
Ellis Medicine is a regional leader in diagnostic medicine. In addition to the latest angiography, mammography and MRI equipment, the hospital is home to advanced CT scan technology.
Our advanced GE volume computed tomography (VCT) 64-slice CT scanner and accompanying computer workstation produce three-dimensional images of the body, more quickly than ever before. The new scanner provides more detailed, higher resolution images and has several major advantages:
Important Applications:
Chest pain: in a single, quick scan, the new CT scanner helps doctors to identify the cause of acute chest pain in patients. Doctors are able to rule out (or in) the three main leading causes of death associated with chest pain (aortic dissection, pulmonary embolism and coronary artery disease).
Stroke: faster, higher resolution imaging of blood vessels in the brain allow doctors to more quickly diagnose a stroke and determine the extent of damage. The sooner a stroke diagnosis is made, the sooner lifesaving treatment can begin.
Trauma - In trauma cases, when every second counts, the new CT scanner enables Ellis clinicians to perform a head-to-toe scan in 15-20 seconds (such a scan typically took more than a minute).
CT Angiograms - the 64-slice CT scanner has the ability to perform CT angiograms, which give doctors information about the body’s blood vessels. A CT angiogram is beneficial because it is completely non-invasive and much quicker than a typical angiogram procedure that involves the insertion of dye into the patient through a catheter.
