The Belanger School of Nursing
The academic and clinical foundation for a successful career
The Belanger School of Nursing prepares individuals for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse. The program is registered by the New York State Education Department jointly with Schenectady County Community College. This hospital-based school awards an Associate in Science degree in Nursing conferred by the Ellis Medicine Board of Trustees.
The 64 credit curriculum is designed to be completed in four semesters. The primary focus of instruction is the care of the hospitalized patient with emphasis on clinical practice.
The Belanger School of Nursing has articulation agreements with S.U.N.Y., Polytechnic Institute at Utica/Rome, Siena College, The Sage Colleges, Chamberlain College, Empire State College, Excelsior College, Maria College, SUNY Delhi and Grand Canyon University. Following graduation from the School of Nursing, a bachelor's degree in nursing may be obtained after two years of full time study.
Many graduates of the School of Nursing choose to begin their nursing careers at Ellis Medicine. All departments that employ registered nurses welcome new graduates of Ellis Medicine's own nursing school.
The Belanger School of Nursing’s curriculum, program of study, meets the educational requirements to award the Associate in Science, Nursing degree upon successful completion of the program. Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam for Registered Nurse licensure in New York. Other states may have different educational requirements for Registered Nurse licensure. The Belanger School of Nursing has not made a determination of whether the curriculum meets educational requirements for professional licensure in states other than New York.

HESI Admission Test Info
The HESI A2 exam is an online, virtually proctored exam. We require the HESI exam for all applicants unless they are a licesnced LPN or a direct admission from the Health Studies or Nutrition Program at SUNY Schenectady.
There is no minimum score requirement for the HESI exam.

Transcipts
A request for transcript is to be directed to the Registrar's office. The written request must include the name of the student as he/she was enrolled, the class and the recipient's complete address. The written request must include the signature of the requestor. No transcript request will be accepted by phone.

CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund: 18004 (a) 1 student
Ellis Medicine, The Belanger School of Nursing has signed and returned to the Education Department, the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that it intends to use no less than $39,370 of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
There are 71 students at Ellis Medicine’s, The Belanger School of Nursing, who are eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
Eligible students are required to complete and submit a CARES – Student Funding Application (see attached pdf) to the school of nursing. Grant funds will be considered based on need. The Belanger School of Nursing will consider how much students will receive under the direction of Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. As of July 10, 2020, no money from the grant has been distributed to students.

Update as of August 11, 2020: Submitted applications have been reviewed and reimbursement to students totaling $10,409.00 are being processed.BSON will send out a third notice to eligible students encouraging them to submit an application for eligible expenses incurred related to the disruption of campus operations during the COVID-19 crisis.
Update as of August 20, 2020: Application submission deadline for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund: CARES Act is set for Saturday, September 5, 2020 at midnight. After final review of applications and disbursement of funds received by the deadline; the remaining funds will be equally distributed to eligible students.
Update as of October 16, 2020: The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund: CARES Act current disbursement of funds has totaled $21,015. The remaining funds will be equally distributed to eligible students.
Update as of November 12,2020: The Belanger School of Nursing is pleased to announce the final disbursement of The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund: CARES Act funding. Each qualifying student from the respective classes of 2019 and 2020 will or has received their equal share allocation of the remaining $18,318.
Update as of January, 28, 2021: After final disbursement and conclusion of application submissions, a remaining balance of $37 remains from this funding grant.
Update as of February 26, 2021: The remaining balance of $37 has been dispersed through a student application request for reimbursement. This brings the remaining balance of this funding to zero.
Update as of October 1, 2021: Additional funds were received. A balance of $101,611 remains on this funding grant.

- The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs: An Emergency Financial Aid Grant application was created on google docs in October 2021. USPS first class letter and email was sent to 66 students with link to application on 10/20/21, the deadline to apply was 11/17/21. Committee met on 11/19/21 to review applications. 38 students requested $513,991. Requests met criteria for grant. Awards were calculated to prioritize Pell students and those with exceptional need. $101,612.06 was dispersed to 38 students. This brings the remaining balance of this funding to zero.

Ellis Hospital, The Belanger School of Nursing received funding under Section 1800 (a) 1 {institutional} and 18004(a) section 3 funding to provide emergency financial aid to qualified students and for costs associated with significant changes to the institution’s delivery of instruction due to the coronavirus. Currently there are 55 students eligible for HEERF emergency financial aid.

New virtual support advisor position: Ellis Medicine, The Belanger School of Nursing is committed to providing a high-quality education to our students, in spite of difficulties posed by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The ongoing disruption caused by the pandemic continues to create many challenges for colleges across the nation. Traditional face-to-face classrooms will continued to be virtual in efforts to keep faculty, staff, and students safe. Students continue to struggle with remote learning and have voiced concerns over this type of classroom. The 4-month contract position ($10,000) will provide support for students who are finding it difficult to adapt to remote learning.
Basic Function:
Responsible for supporting and advising students learning in a virtual learning platform. Technology knowledge on how to access and schedule virtual meetings.

Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSA)
Ellis Hospital, The Belanger School of Nursing (BSON) received funding under CRRSA to provide supplemental awards to existing Student Aid Portion and Institutional Portion grantees. Under CRRSA, BSON received the same amount of funding in financial aid grants to students (total of $39,370). BSON will be providing emergency financial aid to eligible students in the coming weeks. Fifty-five BSON students will be receiving one of the following amounts for a total disbursement of $39,369.81:
- A BSON eligible student, non - Pell grant recipient will receive a check for $566.47
- A BSON eligible student, Pell recipient will receive a check for $849.71
In addition to the student portion of the CRRSA funding, we received additional institutional funding of $75,740.
