Financial Aid
The Belanger School of Nursing is dedicated to providing financial resources to matriculated students who want to further their education, but would not be able to do so without financial assistance. All aid is processed in accordance with required government regulations and every effort will be made to advise students/applicants in a way that will best prepare them for the expenses associated with study at BSON.
How to Apply for Financial Aid
Each student at BSON must complete the Federal Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA), prior to the beginning of the academic year, if they wish to apply for financial aid. The FAFSA can be completed on-line at studentaid.gov. Students applying for financial aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA should be completed and submitted directly to the processor. Returning students may bypass the FAFSA and complete the Renewal FAFSA. The application should be returned to BSON. Any questions regarding completion of the applications, or consideration of special circumstances, may be directed to the Financial Aid Coordinator at the school office. BSON encourages students to apply for financial aid as early as possible.
BSON will comply with all verification or correction requirements as required by the current U.S. Department of Education verification guide. If an application (FAFSA) has been selected for verification, no disbursement for any Title IV aid will be approved until verification has been completed. The student will be notified, in a timely manner, when verification or correction is necessary and what information or documentation is required to conclude the process. After verification has been completed, the application process will continue. BSON must receive a valid student aid report, Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR), before Title IV aid can be disbursed.
Determining Financial Need
Most types of financial aid are based on a student’s demonstrated need. When a student applies for aid, the information reported is used in a federal formula that calculates the Student Aid Index (SAI). The SAI is an amount the student and their family is expected to contribute toward the cost of education. The total Cost of Attendance (COA) includes tuition, books, fees, and other living expenses associated with attending BSON. Financial need is then determined by subtracting the SAI from the COA. The amount remaining is considered the student’s financial need.
Students at BSON may apply for Federal and State Assistance. Institutional and community scholarships are also available. Contact the Financial Aid Coordinator at the BSON for assistance.
