Orthopedic Rehabilitation
Occupational and Physical Therapy
Rehabilitation after orthopedic surgery requires a carefully planned program of therapy and exercise to regain range of motion and resume normal activities. The Ellis Medicine Orthopedic team includes a highly qualified physical therapy staff to provide rehabilitation and occupational therapy for our patients.
Rehabilitation plans are as aggressive as possible without risking injury or damage to implants. In most cases, physical therapy will be initiated within 24 hours of the procedure and continue for up to three months following surgery. Some patients will begin their rehabilitation in a hospital setting, while others will opt for home and outpatient therapy.

In-hospital Rehabilitation (physical and occupational therapy)
In-hospital programs aim to improve functional mobility in order to assist in a patient's discharge from the hospital. Areas of focus include gait, exercise, functional mobility training and education. Patients from various hospital units benefit from our in-hospital services, including medical/surgical, orthopedic, neurological, emergency room, cardiac, oncology and pulmonary cases.
Short Stay Rehabilitation Unit (physical and occupational therapy)
Get Better. Get Home. Get Back to Your Life.
Ellis Medicine offers the area’s newest, most contemporary setting for patients who need short-term rehabilitation care. The separate, dedicated 16-bed unit provides a stepping stone between the hospital and home after hip and knee replacements and other surgical procedures. Our new unit offers a "bridge" of seamless care from hospital to home, supported by the full resources of Ellis Hospital.
Outpatient Rehabilitation
Outpatient programs offer hands-on care and functional progressive exercise for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, such as spinal pain, extremity pain, headaches and difficulty with functioning in everyday life. Areas of focus include functional and sport specific training, clinical research and clinical education.
