Press Release
Pulmonary center at Ellis now a Premier Practice for Zephyr Valve
Monday, March 31, 2025
The Schenectady Pulmonary Critical Care Center at Ellis Medicine has been recognized as a Premier Practice for its exceptional expertise in treating patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and emphysema using the Zephyr® Valve—a minimally invasive treatment developed by Pulmonx. This designation places Ellis Medicine among the top centers in the nation for Zephyr Valve treatment, highlighting the high level of care provided to patients undergoing this advanced procedure.
The Zephyr Valve is a non-surgical option that helps patients with severe COPD and emphysema breathe easier. The procedure, which typically takes about an hour, uses small valves to reduce lung hyperinflation by allowing trapped air to escape while preventing new air from entering the diseased area. This allows healthier parts of the lung to function more efficiently, improving breathing and reducing shortness of breath.
Ellis Medicine’s recognition as a Premier Practice reflects its commitment to delivering cutting-edge pulmonary care and achieving superior outcomes for patients who previously had limited treatment options. This designation also reinforces the expertise of the Schenectady Pulmonary Critical Care Center in managing complex pulmonary cases with innovative, patient-centered solutions.
“We are proud to be recognized as a top center for the Zephyr Valve treatment,” said Dr. Ahmed Khan of the Schenectady Pulmonary Critical Care Center at Ellis Medicine. “This distinction underscores our dedication to providing leading-edge care to patients with severe lung disease. The Zephyr Valve has been life-changing for many of our patients, offering them improved breathing, greater mobility, and a better quality of life—all without surgery.”
