Walk-in mental health center serving youth opens in Schenectady
Tuesday, February 27, 2024
They call it the Family Room. Its focus? Increasing mental health access to children ages 10 to 17. The ABC and CBS affiliates in Albany report on this ground-breaking care model that aims to break down barriers to mental health care for young people.
The Family Room, opened this month by Ellis Medicine with philanthopic support from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, is touted as the first of its kind in the state, News10 ABC reports. It will serve up to eight adolescents at a time and will be staffed with a social worker, case manager, and peer counselor.
“This is a time when the rates of youth mental health problems have been really steadily rising” Dr. David Sturman, Ellis Psychiatry Chair, told News10.
