Ellis named one of the Healthiest Employers in the Capital Region

Tuesday, June 14, 2022

SCHENECTADY, NY – Ellis Medicine has been recognized in the 2022 Healthiest Employers of the Capital Region, an awards program created to honor people-first organizations that prioritize the well-being of their employee population.

One factor that set Ellis Medicine apart is its Healthy ME program, which promotes wellness through a variety of activities and events, while providing access to health and wellness resources. Employees who participate in the program can earn generous discounts on their portion of health insurance premiums, while improving their overall health. In the past year, program participation has increased by an impressive 30 percent.

“There is not a harder job on the planet than being charged with being a frontline responder during COVID,” Deb Solomon, Ellis Chief Human Resources Officer. “The responsibility of keeping those that are providing this care, well and whole, is paramount in Ellis being able to care for our community.”

In all, 16 Capital Region companies made the cut for 2022. These companies were recognized because of their commitment to workplace wellness and their exceptional health and benefits offerings. Even with many employers returning to the office or to hybrid schedules, they have had to adapt their workforces to reflect the ever-changing views of the modern American office. Increased flexibility, work-life balance, and mental health resources have proven to be common trends among Healthiest Employers honorees.

Ellis’ Healthy ME initiative, meanwhile, includes a Passport Program open to all employees. The Healthy ME Passport was implemented to educate staff on the different areas of wellness and encourage employees to participate in wellness activities. The Healthy ME Passport has multiple required metrics that employees complete, including having a preventative physical, completing a Personal Health Assessment, and making a Tobacco-Free Attestation. Staff also complete 3 out of 4 Wellness Activities in four areas of wellness: Physical, Nutritional, Financial, and Social/Mind/Spirit.

Those who complete all metrics of the Healthy ME Passport receive a 15 percent reduction on their share of insurance premiums.

To encourage participation in the program, Ellis offers multiple opportunities on its campuses throughout the year, ranging from a walking challenge to “Yoga Zen Desk” to Lunch & Learns on healthy eating or retirement planning.

Ellis and other companies awarded Healthiest Employee honors were evaluated across six key categories: Culture and Leadership; Foundational Components; Strategic Planning; Communication and Marketing; Programming and Interventions; and Reporting and Analytics. Completed assessments were ranked with the proprietary Healthiest Employers® Index, a 1-100 rubric for wellness programming. The survey is scored and powered by Springbuk, a health intelligence platform that simplifies data-driven decision-making with an intuitive user experience, predictive modeling, and curated action steps.
