Hip, Knee and Shoulder Joint Replacement
Resurfacing provides an alternative to replacement
Hip resurfacing is a surgical (arthoplasty) procedure that provides an interventional alternative to total hip replacement. Often, young and active patients are the best candidates for this procedure, which is less invasive than total hip replacement.
Benefits of hip resurfacing include less bone removal, generally less chance for hip dislocations and the opportunity for the patient to take advantage of additional treatments in the future.
As is the case with total hip replacement, the goals of post-surgical recovery include regaining hip function and reducing the hip pain a patient had prior to surgery.
Comprehensive rehabilitation is required for patients to achieve these goals and to resume normal day-to-day activities with little, if any, limitations.
