Dispatches from C6: Gazette tells Ellis’ pandemic story

The Daily Gazette recently spotlighted the heroic work of the broader Ellis team during the pandemic—calling out specifically the care team on C6, our main COVID unit.

Exploring the impacts of COVID, one year into the pandemic, The Daily Gazette interviewed Cortney Jackson, nurse manager on C6 from the beginning (she has since transferred to the ICU, where her team also cares for COVID patients).

The Daily Gazette reported on how Cortney recalled the unease a year ago “after COVID was confirmed in New York state on March 1, 2020. All preparations were in place, but when would the virus reach Schenectady County?”

“I can remember the feeling of being a little uneasy, a little nervous,” Cortney told The Gazette.

Then the virus arrived.

“Here it is, it’s go time,” she announced to her team. “I remember my staff looking at me. It’s really time? Yep, it’s really time.

“From that time on, they’ve really just stepped up.”
